Questions about choosing a test

What if I am not sure which test the organisation asks for?

Ask the organisation or look at its requirements page. The IELTS partners run a search tool for organisations that accept IELTS at ielts.org.

Can I use one result both for study and for an immigration application?

It depends on the country. For Express Entry, Canada accepts only IELTS General Training, while IELTS Academic is intended for university admission. Australia and New Zealand accept both tests for immigration visas. Check the requirements of both organisations before you book.

Is IELTS for UKVI a different test?

The content, format and level of difficulty are the same as in IELTS Academic or General Training. The difference is that it is taken at a location approved by the UK government, with additional security checks. More on the IELTS for UKVI page.
